"Adobe PhotoShop is a registered trademark of Adobe Systems Incorporated. I am in no way affiliated with Adobe. Hi, I'm Steve Anthony, I'm a photographer and digital retouching artist here in New York City. In this clip we're going to talk about how to fill a shape with a pattern in PhotoShop. The easiest way to do this is to, let's give an example of a shape. Lets grab our freehand marquis tool and just draw a shape. In this case what we're going to do is maybe, maybe change a little bit of the background of this particular picture. So once you've established a shape, then maybe you'd want to you know do the other side as well. In that case you'd just hold down the shift key and draw another shape. And then you'll have both shapes. Now that the shapes are established, and of course this goes for any shape that you've created, be it a circle, lips, a square, whatever. Go to your tool menu and grab the pattern stamp tool, it's the easiest way to do it. Select a large brush, in this case we have a two hundred pixel brush and the pattern that we've selected is the tie-died impressionist. And then you just color in the shape, and you've just done that using the pattern stamp tool and a large brush size. Now if you wanted to you could use a smaller brush size and just fill it in arbitrarily, as you can see I'm doing right now. The pattern is still there, it's behind your brush strokes essentially, because you're using a smaller brush diameter. So now it's a little bit of your background and a little bit of the new pattern background. Then if you want to see what that looks like without the marching ants around the marquis, simply hit Control D and that will deselect the area and then you can see what it would look like. I'm Steve Anthony and that's the simple way to fill in a shape with a pattern in PhotoShop."
