"My name is Gloria Campbell with Advantage Training Systems in St. Petersburg Florida. Sometimes we need to understand how to appear more approachable at work. I'm going to give you a couple of techniques that'll work. The first thing you want to do is to smile. A smile indicates your readiness to engage people. It also means that you are willing and approachable. So, make sure that you smile. If you are one of those people that have difficulty work on it, practice it, look in the mirror. See how you look when you're smiling. The second thing that you might want to do is consider being the one to approach someone first. People in some cases may not know how you like to be approached, what you like to be, what you like to say or do. So, you be the one to initiate conversation. The third thing is body language. Make sure that your body language signals that you are approachable. Some of the things that you can do is hands open. That's always a good sign that someone is willing and able to listen. The body language that communicates that, you know, “I'm really not interested" hands closed, back in a stiff position. So, if you want to appear more approachable at work a couple of things you can do smile, approach someone first, and make sure that your body language is communicating "I want to be engaged with you."
