Hi, I'm Linda Wooldridge and I'm a home school mom. So how do you teach home school history using a book series? It's a really fun way to start your day in homeschooling. Let's take this book series, "American Girls". In this particular case, Molly, who is the girl who existed during World War II. Okay. She didn't really exist during World War II, but, that's when the stories were set. In this particular book series, each girl has a series of six books and if you can find them, there's also a cook book and a craft book which will make your day a whole lot more fun because you'll get to cook and do activities just like Molly would have done back in World War II. There's also a book that is a teacher's guide. Now these were written for public school teachers; so some of the ideas may not work for your classroom. But they do have work pages and suggestions for activities and they include a map of Molly's hometown, or whichever girl you're choosing to study. Now, American Girls isn't the only book series that has an educational component. You can also get a book about the Little House On The Prairie series that takes about two years to work through, studying all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. There are also book series for other educational series. Or, you could write your own if you chose to. If your son enjoys a book series, say The Hardy Boys or whatever, you can create your own study. Maybe he could write his own Hardy Boys stories someday. It's only what you choose to do, whether you choose a pre-prepared curriculum or whether you write your own. Don't discount those book series. They're great way to have a lot of fun and add little spice to your home school day. I'm Linda Wooldridge, have a great homeschooling day.
