"Hi, I'm Linda Wooldridge and I'm a home schooling mom. How do you get your child a driver's license when you're home schooling? Well, the first thing you need to do is to check on your state's laws because laws will vary from state to state. But where I live in Florida, a learner's permit is the same for a home school student as it is for any high school student. They take the test, now it's even on line. They get their learner's permit and they're ready to start driving. But at that point, the rules change a little bit. First of all you want to check. Does your child need to be registered with your county or with some sort of school in order to drive? In our state, that's the case. If my child isn't registered with the state then he or she can't drive. Right now, I am qualified to teach my child behind the wheel, because they do have to pass the behind the wheel test when they go in for their driver's license. But some states may have laws requiring you to show that they have taken a professional driving class. Also, some states do require that they take a drug and alcohol education class. So check on all of those requirements. Make sure that you have followed all the rules as exactly as they're written. And also double check about how long they have to drive before they're eligible for their driver's license. Once you've done all of those things you'll be able to take your child in and get them their driver's license. And then you won't be responsible for ferrying them everywhere. I'm Linda Wooldridge, have a great home schooling day."
