"One of the most creative things about sewing is that there are different types of of stitching, and different types of decorative stitching, and different ways of putting things together. And we're going to learn one of those today by demonstrating slip stitching. My name name is Daniel King. I'm a designer, pattern maker, and I'm going to show you a little bit about slip stitching. It's the basic type of stitch that most people will use in hand sewing. You take your two pieces of fabric; put them together. You begin underneath; you put the needle through, I'm using contrasting thread so that you can see, put a knot at the end of the thread, and I slipped it through. Now this; I'm going to sew in a straight line. Just put the needle back down into the fabric, and I just go maybe a quarter of an inch, an eighth of an inch, depending on how tight you want it to be. And I put it down, and again, I'm not going all the way through. I'm just going a little way through on the bottom, and I'm going to push it back up again. So, you can see this is the top. Push it out, slip it through, and do the same thing. Now, I'm going to start right about where I ended. Push it partway through and slip it out. So, as you're stitching along you're going to see a stitch, a little stitch, and then a longer, and then maybe a shorter stitch, but you're just going to slip right along that seam. And that's a basic slip stitch. My name is Daniel King, and have a great day."
