"I'm Richard Goms, we're here in Murray, Utah, we're talking about basic car care. Now I'm going to talk about tire sizes and how to interpret them. This tire here is a 16 inch tire. The numbers here, the P215, 65R16. The 16 means 16 inches. So the rim of the tire, the wheel of the tire, is 16 inches across. If you get a tire that's 15 inches or 14 inches, its not going to fit on this wheel. The 215 is the distance across the tire, the width of the tire. And the 65 means the height of the tire, how high that tire is. Now you should always try to get a tire that is recommended by the manufacturer, the right size for that car. If you get a tire that is too wide or too high but is still a 16 inch tire, you could run into a problem with turning. It can hit and rub on the wheel well and damage the tire, damage the wheel well and keep you from being able to turn properly."
