"This is Richard Goms. We're in Murray, Utah. We're talking about basic car care. I'm going to show you how to determine whether your car is front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or all wheel drive. If the engine of the car is sitting sideways, like this is, where you can see the spark plugs, the valve covers, the engine itself, is sitting sideways, like this. This is a front wheel drive car, because it has drive lines, that go to the front wheels, that allow the wheels to turn, and pull the car forward, or push the car backwards in reverse. Also, they control the steering as well, so they serve two purposes. In a rear wheel drive car, like the older cars, the engine sits forward, facing straight forward. The transmission is behind that, and then the drive line, goes to the back wheels, and pushes the car forward, or pulls the car backwards. If you have a front wheel drive car, that is also called an all wheel drive car, the engine will still look like this, but it will have a drive line that goes to the back wheels, so that both the front wheels and the back wheels, work together."
