"There's more to pedaling a bike than just pushing down on the pedals. Learning how to pedal a bike effectively and correctly is really going to help you go faster and have more fun. I'm Moochi at Gregg's Greenlake in Seattle and we're going to talk about how to pedal a bike. A lot of people, when they first start to ride a bike, don't use cages or clips or anything. All they have is a flat pedal. And that's fun, it's easy to take your foot off, but it's not very efficient because essentially your pedaling what they call ovals. You're only pushing down and you're losing all this space right here where the pedal comes around to get power and to propel the bike forward. You're going to get more power and be more efficient if you learn to pedal what we call circles. Rather than just pushing down with each foot one at a time, if you get some sort of cage for your pedal, or if you clip in, you can spin what we call circles. Which means you're always putting power on the pedals. You're going to be more efficient, you're going to ride faster, and you're going to have more energy to keep going longer. Of course, having the right saddle height is going to help you to get the full extension on your leg which is also going to help you be a lot more efficient. I'm Moochi at Gregg's in Seattle and these have been a few tips on how to pedal a bike."
