How to Connect a TV, DVD Player & VCR With a Modulator

"Hi, I'm Rokosz, your digital lifestyle expert. And I'm going to show you how to hook up your DVD or VHS to your TV using an RF modulator. And what's an RF modulator? Well, it's a little device that you can get at your local electronics store that allow you take your coaxial or cable-y cable type of thing and allow you to send down information through a more modern connection. Like super video or composite outputs. A lot of the televisions for years like this little guy right here simply only had one connection in the back, the one for the antennae or the cable. So we're going to take this old rabbit ear I guess off, pull it out, get rid of it, and down here the only way we can hook something into the unit is through this cable-like connection. So we're going to go ahead and do that. We're going to grab our coaxial cable here and simply put it in, little copper piece will do, and we spin it until it's nice and tight. All right. Then we take the other end of the coaxial cable and put it up here into the two TV or out, this one says two TV so it's pretty simple and now what we've done is we've created rather a connection, oops, get back here, out of the RF modulator to the television unit itself. All right. Now we have to bring something into it. All right. If we have that antennae that I hadn't tossed aside, we would attach it here or your cable goes here. All right, that's all well and good. Now we need our entertainment. Well you can see we can send the signal to the TV now through the coaxial cable with the choice of either the three RCA, the video being yellow, the red for right channel and white for left channel or the S video. So I'm going to use the S video because it's the more prudent choice as far as quality goes and my cable is here, my RCA cables are color coded, so we're going to put white for left channel, red for right channel, and then this one is yellow, could think here, won't fit, 'cause it's an S video connector. And you can see where it's slotted, there's only one way to get it in correct, now, we've got it in here, and all we have to do is slip down to our unit, our VCR, DVD or VHS and we're going to do the same thing. Line out, red, or we can go pure audio out, 'cause we're separating it, pure audio to red, pure audio to white left channel, and then slip it right in here for our super video.
