Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today we're going to talk about how to write a cause and effect essay. A cause and effect essay is a little different than sort of a literary analysis paper or an opinionated paper. What you're going to want to do in a cause and effect essay is actually get all of your facts straight. I would recommend since you are doing a sort of compare contrast deal through this paper, I would recommend writing down all of your causes, and then writing down all of your effects of whatever topic you choose, like Global Warming for example. Write down all of the causes, write down all of the possible detrimental effects, and then figure out how you're going to organize your paragraphs around these things. In each paragraph I would have one detail followed by a bad effect or a good effect, whatever you're writing about, so that you sort of go through the paper, and each paragraph illuminates a new part of your argument. So that by the time you get to the end of your paragraph you've either persuaded someone to want to perpetuate an activity or to discontinue it. So therefore you have a cause and effect which then the cause, being your essay, produces an effect in the reader, and that is probably the best way for you to construct your essay.
