"In this clip we're going to talk about how to become a certified public accountant. The first thing you need to do is figure out what your state's minimum educational and experience requirements are. I'm going to show you the website where you can go to find out that information. Each state has different educational and experience requirements so it's important for you to find out the requirements for the state you'd like to be licensed in. The best place to go is a website called www.nasba.org. That's the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy right on the homepage, there's a link for state board listing. Click on that link. It takes you to another in between page, simply click on the map on the left side of the page. This takes you to a state map. All you have to do is click on your state, I'm in Washington so I'm going to click there. And in this box on the bottom left it will tell you the name of your state board, the address and e-mail, a fax, a phone number and the website. You'll have to search each individual state's website for their requirements. Next we're going to go over the remaining steps required to become a certified public accountant. The next step after you know you can meet your state's minimum educational and experience requirements is to get an okay to test. All states have a different procedure for how you get this okay to test, so it's important again to go to the website for your state board to find out this information. Another great place to go on the web is www.cpa-exam.org. It will also give you some additional information. Next, you simply have to pass the exam, you schedule it, you take each piece of the CPA exam, and you pass all the parts. And then you apply for your license with your state board. Once you are approved you will get a certificate from your state board, and then you'll need to continue doing your professional education to maintain your license. And that's how you become a certified public accountant."
