"All origami starts off from simple traditional bases, today I'm going to show you how to make one that's not so traditional or not so simple. My name is Robert Segundo and today I'm going to show you how to make the snail base. Now the snail base comes off of several bases and if you look here on the table you can see I've already got a bird base prepared. I'm going to go ahead and put this bird base in what's called the closed position, which is basically just taking the flaps and just pushing them down. Now to go into the snail base, what you're going to do is you're going to pull this flap up, recrease it again, basically you're just going to open it up, and you're going to squash fold it but it's going to take a lot of precision to do this, because if you mess it up it will fold wrong, 'cause basically what you're doing is you're kind of pressing this out to get it to where you want it to go. I usually start with the center here, and work my way back up to the point, and of course do the sides. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And as you can see I've already got a problem here, this one isn't folding right, so you have to just kind of play with it and work it. This is for more advanced folding, advanced techniques in doing some really crazy origami work. So let's open this back up, let's do this one more time, just going to press here. One of the other things I'll do is just kind of bring my finger up like so, create that pressure and then kind of pull down on the point here. And then after I press the point in, pretty much press it all back, there we go. That one worked a lot better. Basically you're just going to do this to all four points, and then that will be your snail base, so play around with it, have fun, and enjoy."
