"All origami begins with simple bases that have been around ever since origami has been around, and today I'm going to teach you how to do one of the more complex simple bases. It's called the bird base. What we're going to do is we're going to start off with a square piece of paper like I have here. And we're going to take it and what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and fold it like this, this is called a sheet fold or a shawl fold. I've known it as sheet fold forever so that's what I call it. So what we're going to do, is have to get it good and creased so when I open it up, and sheet fold it again. This actually has many different names, it's also called a mountain fold when you folder it over like that. And we're going to do is a book fold here, just where you fold your paper into a rectangle like so, open it up, and book fold it again. There we go. Now what we're going to do is we're going to go into our square base, our flower base, like so. It's going to be a square shape like that, it's going to look like that. What we're going to do is we're going to take at the open ends, we're going to fold it up, towards the center line. Like so. And once you have it folded like that what you're going to do is you're going to take and just bring down your point so you get this crease right along the top line here, open it up. And just kind of - this is called a - I believe this is called a petal fold, is what this is. What you're going to do is you're going to flip it over and just repeat those steps on the other side. Like so. And since we've already creased it there we should be able to just open it up, petal fold it again, like so. There you have it, this is your traditional bird base, play around with it and have fun making your origami."
