How to Date Your Spouse

"Hi, I'm Joe Cuenco with Family Resources. Today we're going to be talking about how to improve our relationship skills. Specifically, how do we date our spouse? We'll just what would you suggest in dating your spouse? This is an interesting point, many couples really kind of lose sight of the romanticism that they had that brought them first together. The time, the fun times that they had that created the aura where they fell in love. And its really important that couples, especially those that have been together a long time, perhaps with children, where they take time to carve out a special time for one another. And it doesn't have to be a huge thing. It may be something as small as the husband cooking a nice candlelight dinner for the wife or the wife saying honey, I've made a special date for us. Its dinner and we're going out somewhere. Maybe spending a night in a hotel room, just maybe 20 miles away, no place special. So its really important that you do something special for each other and make sure that you keep that spark alive and make sure that each appreciates that you would make that choice all over again. So there's important things that can happen. Obviously there's certain things that you can do in the house, what we call dressing for success. Perhaps a wife can buy something at Victoria's Secret or the husband can buy something that he likes. Something for his wife to wear or conversely, what the wife would like the husband to wear. So surprise him, play games, there are things that you can do. As a matter of fact, couples often really enjoy engaging in bets where the stakes are certain favors that really get attention and really generates some excitement. So realistically what you want to do is create tension, get away from some basically the norm and as I said, it really doesn't take a lot of money to do some of these things. They key is that you really need to have the relationship fundamentals down. If you're arguing and having trouble, you really need to address those before you can start dating and getting into the romantic side of the relationship. There is a lot of material that experts have written on how to have ten or twenty best dates for married couples. There's a lot of information on the Internet. There's also workshops that can be attended by Family Resources and other entities. But, realistically, the important point is making one feel special and rekindling that bond, that's important.
