Series Summary

In the contexts of sociology and popular culture, the concept of interpersonal relationships involves social associations, connections or affiliations between two or more people. Such persons may interact overtly, covertly, face-to-face or may remain effectively unknown to each other, as in a virtual community whose members maintain anonymity and do not socialize outside of a chat room. The discovery or establishment of common ground between people provides a fundamental component for enduring interpersonal relationships. Loss of common ground, which may happen over time, may tend to end interpersonal relationships. In this free video series on marriage counseling, Joe Cuenco, author of "Married For 5000 Years," discusses how to resolve a variety of conflicting issues within marriages. Cuenco begins by explaining how to tell your husband you're pregnant and how to date your spouse. He then discusses other marriage related topics, such as: how to get your spouse to trust you, be the perfect wife, deal with a cheating spouse, deal with a controlling spouse and even how to be a better communicator. "Hi, I'm Joe Cuenco with Family Resources. Today we're going to be talking about marital communications and the family, specifically how to tell your husband that you're pregnant. Well just how do you tell your husband that you're pregnant? Well if you're going to have to tell your husband, chances are that this may not be the situation that you'd hoped for. Because obviously if it were great news which it normally is, it wouldn't be an issue of having to tell him. So, realistically if it's not as positive an outcome as you had expected as a family, you need to sit down with your husband, get him in a relaxes frame of mind and without any distraction, and be able to really talk to him more or less in a direct fashion. You need, you really can't sugar coat the impact of this outcome because a baby is a baby, there's no way to diminish the fact that you've got to prepare for the new arrival. And so how do you minimize this impact? Well, start thinking about and talking about that you're starting the planning process, that you have a lot of options that you've already thought about, possibly daycare, babysitting, planning and how you're going to manage for the expenses because these are all things that are important, and if you talk proactively about how you've planned and how you've thought about these different options it's going to really minimize the impact. So, you need to try to open up a positive dialog and if you think that it may be more of a challenge, perhaps it would be beneficial to have a family member there. So focus on planning and the next steps, it's actually great news because there's nothing better in life than having the family, a new family member which will help grow you together and bond you more as a family. Another suggestion would be there's marriage education, there's counseling and workshops that might be helpful to help kind of work both of you through this process. So that's how you tell your husband that you're pregnant. I'm Joe Cuenco with Family Resources, relationships for life."
