"So, you're thinking about renting space at an antique mall? I'm Blake Kennedy with Kennedy Brother's Estate Services, and I'm here to help. Renting a space at an antique mall can be awfully exciting. The great advantage to that is, you get to provide the merchandise, but you don't need to stand behind the counter every single day, and try and sell it. An antique mall provides somebody there behind the counter, selling it, provides you with the space. They provide you with the advertising. They pay the electricity. All you have to do is bring in the merchandise. You want to make sure you go in there, asking questions though. Say, do you have any spots available? And they're going to say yes or no, or they might even put you on a waiting list. You know, try and find out which one is the best mall. Always go around the antique malls, and look around to see, which spot would be the best for you. There might be a spot in an antique mall that has a lot of stuff that you're already selling. So, you don't want to compete against them. Try and be a little bit different in each space. But some malls will charge you a ten percent, ten percent is rent plus ten percent. Some are fifteen percent, so you gotta make sure how much they're charging you on that, and then be able to price your stuff accordingly. You also want to make sure some malls make you volunteer your time to work there. If you don't have the time to do that and you don't want to put it in, then you don't want to be at that particular mall, because they want you to work sometimes on the week-ends. You just want to make sure that you pick out a mall that's right for you. That sells the right products you have. But if you get into a spot in an antique mall, the trick is, always rotate the merchandise. Work that booth, just don't think by putting it in the space, that you're going to do really great on that. You gotta rotate it. Even if you don't find any fresh merchandise that week, show up there, and spend a couple of hours, and take the stuff from the bottom shelf and put it on the top, and take the top, and put it to the left. Make it look different. Because people are hitting those shops, and they know when a "st", booth starts looking stale. But, it can be a lot of fun doing an antique mall. Good luck picking out the right one. I'm Blake Kennedy."
