"Joel Hickerson, grindog.com. We are going to draw a gangster monkey. You've got the head. You want to put the head towards the top but being a gangster he is probably going to have like a fedora on or something so block out a little area for a hat. He is going to have a huge jaw because that is what gangster monkeys have got, maybe his collar is turned up with a trench coat and being a monkey he has got really long arms so chances are his knuckles are going to be dragging the ground especially if he is a gangster monkey, got a little tie action, squared off, trench coat, feet coming out of the bottom maybe his other arm coming out here, flipping a coin, because that's what gangster monkeys do you know. Got little buttons on the coat alright and now you start off. You have got the head, the eyes, the beady little gangster eyes. The monkey is going to have his nose right there next to him and then a big jaw, a little monkey smile, a little gangster smile coming out, his ears. The fedora is going to be pulled down tight against his head again. I know we are kind of making a mess with the construction lines but that's o'kay. Don't worry about erasing it until we are all the way done and we are going to come back with a marker as we do this and create the lines we want anyway. The fedora comes up, comes down. You've got the hat band, eyes up under the brim, nose, give it a little shadow under there, big jaws. Gangsters all got big jaws and you have a turned collar and tie, monkey arm, dragging the ground. Remember monkeys always kind of lean on their knuckles and this is one other thing that will point in the direction of making this a monkey and not just a gangster. The details of the trench coat would be your buttons and kind of some wrinkles to make the trench coat look a little bigger on the monkey. The toes are coming out underneath. The arm is coming off of the padded shoulders, flipping the coin. Again don't get caught up in the details, this is a cartoon. The things that make monkeys monkeys are big ears so another thing that will help you recognize this as a monkey. That's how you draw a gangster monkey."
