"I'm Tim Gipson and I'm going to talk to you about how to defrost a freezer. Now most of your freezers whether it's part of your refrigerator here or actually if you have a free standing, what we call a deep freeze. Are frost free. Now how do you know that, is that the interior will, if you look in there, be pretty much a plastic with some venting around that. And you also your freezer will indicate some where that it is frost free. So with these types of freezers, there's very little maintenance you need to do. But now even with these there is some cleaning that you want to do. Now in the case that you got to remove some, some surface frost that you may get from moisture that gets up in here. You'll want to have a large enough cooler where you can pull out everything that you've got in your freezer. Now in most cases this won't take a lot of time, so you can just put those in the coolers and that will stay cool enough. Now if it's going to be a longer amount of time, most of your grocery stores will now have a section where you can actually get dry ice. So that you can have a longer period of time to store that food in a cooler and keep it nice and cold before you go back in. But you will want to come in even on these frost free, you want to come in at least maybe once a year, come in and wipe the surface, that will keep it clean and also keep down some of the residual. Cause any residual frost even if it's just on the surface will reduce the efficiency of your freezer. Now in some of your longer term storage typically in your chest freezers, a lot of those are still the non frost free type. And those cases it's very easy to see over the period of time, you'll actually get some of that frost, it almost looks like, like snow that builds up on the side of it. So in that case you want to empty those freezers, you want to leave it open, actually disconnect the power and you want to let the frost, you want to let that defrost naturally. And it will not take a lot of time for that to happen, it will actually come off in chunks and you can wash it out. You want to make sure it's thoroughly dry before you put your food back in. And again you want to make sure you store that food in a cooler so that it will stay frozen in time for you to put back in. I'm Tim Gipson and that's how to defrost your freezer."
