Hi, I'm Virginia Intelisano a mental health counselor registered intern with the state of Florida and I' m here to talk to you about what is bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder and is characteristic of both symptoms of mania and depression. The manic symptoms are seen as staying up for days on end, shopping excessively, cleaning excessively, being restless, having rapid speech. The signs of depression are feeling sad and despair, feeling hopeless, even having thoughts about suicide. These are characteristics of mood disorder which is called bipolar disorder and the moods happen either within days or weeks.
