"My name is Jill Weiss and I'm going to tell you a little bit about how to play second base. Second base is one of those positions where you are quick on your feet. You have a lot of responsibility. You have got to be able to field the ball cleanly. You have got to be able to cover the positions. You have got to be able to throw. First things first is on fielding you always want to kind of be light on your feet. There is three different throws. When you are close to first base you can either kind of toss it this way. If you have to kind of throw it far where you are actually taking a full wind up do it that way or you actually just kind of do an underhand toss. The main thing is when you are fielding those positions is do what you can to get in front of them. Your head should go all the way down and see it into the glove. On balls that are hit to your other side you want to do what you can to cut off that angle and always have that other hand on top also to cover the ball and protect it. Now as far as covering positions you want to make sure you are not in the base path of the runner, either behind the base path or in front of it. You also want to pay attention to the batter, how many outs there are, who is on base, if it is a short game where you think they are going to bunt or slap you are going to move in. You always want to communicate with your first baseman when you are covering first, if there is somebody on first. If you are going to back up or if you are going to cover that base. As far as short stop goes you are also going to want to communicate with the short stop to make sure who is going to cover that base when somebody is trying to steal so that way you can communicate to the catcher on who is covering. My name is Jill Weiss and those are just some tips on how to play second base."
