"Do fleas jump? Oh, you better believe it. The flea is the world's second best jumper. The flea which is a small one sixteenth to one eighth, one eighth of an inch insect, in which has tube like mouth parts for feeding on blood of its hosts, with a laterally compressed body, that makes it easy for it to move through fur and feathers, has extremely long and strong hind legs. And these hind legs are designed to shoot the flea from area to area. They can jump up to seven inches high and up to thirteen inches horizontally, that's two hundred times the body length of the flea. That's essentially like a six foot man jumping twelve hundred feet horizontally. That's big, I mean, that's gold medal big. So, it's very important to think of that when you're thinking about where the fleas have gotten in your house, where they could get, and where they've come from, because those strong hind legs are the way they get from your animal into your bed."
