"Hi, I'm Ann Myrick, and today, we're going to talk about decorating a girl's room, but not too girly. Things to think about is...what I would do first -- I'm a decorator, and I work with what people have and I love doing children's rooms. And what I always do is talk to the child first because sometimes people will think, "Oh, this is going to hard. I don't know what to do." Well, all you need to do is talk to your child and see what they like because they will be able to tell you exactly what colors they want, what they like in their room, what they don't like in their room, if they want sport objects or if they want dance objects or whatever it may be. So sit down with your...with your daughter -- with your child -- and find out what's important to them. Find out colors that they love. Find out if they would like paint or if they would like a different texture or wallpaper on the walls. Just talk it through with them and kind of know. This is their place. This is their hangout, so they should be able to have a big say in it. So decide what we want the color to be, what type of...do we want a solid or a print bedspread. In here, we went with a print bedspread, but we didn't want to carry the print too much, so it's a print bedspread and we have several pillows, but we didn't just go with this color scheme. We didn't go crazy with it. So it's a little bit of a fun floral bedspread, and then we have a little floral lamp over here. But if we...if this was too much -- if this was a little bit too girly for the person that's going to be in this room, you could change this out. This could be a little bit taller. If she's going to read in this bed, you might want to get a lamp that's a little bit taller. And you could easily take...use this same stainless base, but just find a real...a different real fun shade if you want to change your shade off. And then you could find a neat little container or box and just raise it up if you didn't want to buy another shade. Be sure the bed is comfortable. Be sure the pillows are comfortable. And then whatever you want to do, one thing that I love doing is using containers. And we just pulled out the bright green -- and green is not a real girly color -- and we're just staying with the feel of not too girly, so we're going to put these up so she'll have places to put things. And let her make choices, also, on what she likes and what she doesn't like. This is Ann Myrick, and that is how to decorate a girl's room not too girly."
