"Hi, I'm Amelia, and I'm going to talk to you about, how to lighten your dyed hair. Now once the hair has been dyed with permanent color, it's done, you can't lighten it with color. In other words, you can't go into the salon, or into the store, and get a box of regular color and put it on. The only thing that's going to happen is, your new growth, or your roots, they'll probably lighten up, and then you'll have something like this going on, where you've got a light spot, but then it starts to get darker at the ends, and that's not very natural looking, that's not at all what you want. So that's what color would do if you apply it to darkened hair. The only way to lighten darkened hair and to get it to where you want it to be, is with highlights. And you can do highlights heavy enough where you give yourself an all over lighter look. As a matter of fact, I recommend to clients who are trying to go little lighter, to do a super heavy highlight, and then you can always tone over it to add the tone that you want. So in order to get that lighter look, you would just add some highlights, to see how much lighter that looks, just by adding a few highlights, because it lightens the hair all over, it gives it optical illusion. So just make sure, that whenever you're lightening, trying to lighten your hair, you're only going to be able to lighten it successfully, with lightener. If you use color, you're going to get an uneven lift, in other words, you're going to get roots lighter and ends darker, and that's a tell tale sign of unnatural hair color. So that's how you would lighten your already darkened hair."
