"Hi, I'm Amelia and I'm here to talk to you about how to prepare your hair for color. When coloring your hair, the first thing you want to look at is do you use a lot of product on your hair. If you use a lot of product, about the day before or the night before you get your hair colored, you're going to want to use a clarifying shampoo. What that's going to do is that's going to get everything off your hair and prepare it for the color. You don't want to shampoo that morning because you don't want to manipulate the scalp too much. You also, try not to drink coffee first thing in the morning if you have a very sensitive scalp, because caffeine tends to dilate the blood vessels, and your scalp can actually tingle or burn a little more, be more sensitive to the color if you're getting root to end color. Another thing is you, if you go after work, and like I said, you've got a lot of product, you've got a lot of hair spray, you can get your hair dresser to shampoo your hair, but honestly, a lot of times the color will go right through that, it won't affect. Now, if you use one of those dying crayons of those temporary colors that, you know, you put on the gray hair in between touch ups, that you may want to have removed prior to the color service, and your hair dresser can do that with just a simple color remover that she takes the color off your skin with. Those are wax based, and they can sometimes prevent the color from completely absorbing in to the hair, especially on significantly thicker hair because the cuticle on the gray tends to be thicker. So, really, as far as preparing your hair for color, you just want to make sure you don't manipulate that scalp too much the day of your color service. You don't want to have a lot of product on your hair, an excessive amount of product build up, but if you do, you can use a clarifying shampoo the night before. You don't have to shampoo before you go get your hair colored, it's almost better not to. And watch your coffee intake the morning of your color if you've got an extremely sensitive scalp. And those are all ways that you can prepare your hair for color."
