"Hi, my name is Gloria Campbell. I'm with Advantage Training Systems in St. Petersburg, Florida and I want to talk to you about how to counsel a troubled employee. There are several things you want to be aware of. First of all, your goal as the manager or supervisor is to try to determine what the problem is. Is it personal? Is it business? Maybe it's physical? Maybe there is a drug problem. But, that's the extent the way you want to be involved unless it's related to work. If it's work, maybe there are too much, they're overloaded with work. Maybe they're above they're skill level in particular job. Maybe they've been promoted faster than they should be. Those are things that you can deal with in the work environment. Anything else would probably require or be best handled by a referral outside of your department. Most organizations have employee assistance programs that you can refer them to. If not, check with your social service agency in your particular county or state. There are lots of resources for that employee. Just make sure that if it's related to work, you handle it. If not, refer it. Hi, my name is Gloria Campbell. I am with Advantage Training Systems in St. Petersburg, Florida giving you ideas on how to counsel a troubled employee."
