"Hi, I'm Amelia and I'm going to talk to you about how to get great hair highlights at home. Using the boxed hair color highlighting kits are great, some of them come with mascara wands, and some of them come with caps. The caps can be a little cumbersome to work with, if you're going to use them, always make sure you brush your hair, make sure it's dry. Put the cap on, and then, there's a tool that usually comes in it, and you would just poke the hole and pull the hair out. Sometimes that can be a little difficult to do on yourself, so make sure you've got a friend to help you. And then you would apply the color all over, let it process, shampoo, and then remove the cap. Another technique is using the tip of a comb. You would dip it into the product, pick up the hair, and actually just comb it on. You want to make sure that you dip it a couple of times, because if not, the highlight will be inconsistent. So you want to dip once, comb, dip a second time and finish putting that product on there. And let that sit, you don't have to worry about it bleeding, or getting on this, because the product will just swell and lighten this hair here. Another technique you can use, would be foil. Foil can be a little difficult to do on yourself, but if you're proficient, it's a great way to separate out the hair. You just pick the hair up, apply the product with the brush, put the foil underneath, and then you would fold it, and fold it again. Now, of course, in the saloon, you would do that a little bit neater, but at home, you would just crimp the foil around the piece, and let it process. The foil's actually going to help the color to process faster. So you'll get lighter hair if you do this, versus the baliage technique. So those are some ways to get some great highlights at home."
