"My name is Christine Marquette and I'm a registered dietitian with Austin Regional Clinic and I'm going to talk to you about how to eat healthy at Applebee's. The easiest way to eat healthy at Applebee's is to go straight to their Weight Watchers section. This particular section includes a little bit of everything. There is some appetizer choices, entrees, salads and even a desert and all the items in this particular section you can see with the nutritional information it has the calorie count, the fat, all of that is available and again because this is part of the Weight Watcher's Menu it is actually very healthy choices, even that particular desert is pretty low calorie and pretty low fat. If you don't want to choose from the Weight Watcher's Menu, the next best option if you are going for lunch is their pick and pair combo where the best choice would be something like the soup and the salad. With the soups you just want to go for the broth based soups just avoid the creamy soups and with the salad you want to choose anything that has a grilled item on it, grilled chicken or grilled fish or shrimp. Just avoid any of the fried salads. So a fried chicken salad for example you would want to stay away from. If you are going for dinner and you really want a steak, angle for the sirloin steak preferrably the 7 ounce sirloin and try to avoid any of the toppers, things like the sauteed garlic and mushrooms and onions or the fried toppings, any of those things are really going to add a lot of fat and calories to your meal. As far as your sides you want to go for the same vegetables and try to avoid any of the mashed potatoes or au gratin potatoes or things like that and as far as your beverages, the plainer the better. If you can angle for something like a tea, coffee, water or diet soft drink that is going to be a much better option for you. It won't add any additional calories to your meal. Try as best as you can to avoid the regular soft drinks and if you are going to have an alcoholic beverage try to limit it to only one at your meal because that again is another large source of calories particularly if you are working on weight management. So these are just a few tips for how to eat healthy at Applebee's."
