on 8/29/2009 Cleaning leather does not remove the oils from the leather and finished auto leather does not need 'conditioning' with anythiong other than water. You are only dealing with the surface which is painted and not the leather itself.

"Hello today we're going to talk about cleaning the leather inside of your automobile's interior. One thing to remember before you apply any leather conditioner is to treat the leather surface with a nice cleaner. What you have to use is a designated all purpose cleaner that is diluted properly so that you do not harm the leather or use a designated leather cleaner. What you are going to do is lightly mist the area that you are cleaning on the leather, gently rub the area, removing any stains or soiled areas of the leather and then once it is cleaned you are going to follow up with your leather conditioner. Now a good leather conditioner will restore the oils that the cleaner has taken out of the leather and the oils will help keep the leather's life and longevity by restoring the suppleness and the health of the leather. You are going to take and just dab a small amount of your leather cleaner and again gently rub it into the leather. You would do this for the entire leather seat. We are going to demonstrate this on this leather wrapped steering wheel and you always want to make sure that you start with your cleaner first. We are going to start with our leather cleaner. It is a liquid based cleaner so you just lightly mist the microfiber towel and then just going over and just gripping the steering wheel with your hand, just moving back and forth you are going to clean the steering wheel removing all of the hand oils, you know the oils that build up over time from gripping it and then what you are going to do is you are going to see all of those oils removed and on to your microfiber towel. Once you have the steering wheel clean you are going to follow up with your leather conditioner. It is a water based leather conditioner, again misting the conditioner on to the microfiber towel. You are then going to wipe and work it into the leather making sure that it really gets in deep. This will help extend the life of this steering wheel cover and so over the years it will stay factory new. That's how you clean leather upholstery."
