"Hi my name is Pat Goodwin with Pat Goodwin Associates dot com. And today I'm going to talk specifically about how to write a professional bio for a company website or an online social network. A bio is reflecting of who you are as a person and what your background is. Many people that write a bio talk about what they did ten or fifteen years ago first. What you want to do is put that last. The bio is talking about what you do in your field of work correctly now, and is in a third person. So lets just use an example, you're Dr. Philip Rogers and you would then have in the center of the bio top page, your title Doctor Philip Rogers. Or you could have Philip R. Rogers PhD. Or you could just have your name centered in the top of the bio sheet and then you would then have biographic or bio, biographical data or you could say biography. Then you begin to write in paragraphs. The first paragraph would be reflective a little bit about who you are and then you speak to about yourself in third person. If you want to say your name, you then use your first name. If you want to say your last name, then you would always speak about your last name. There are lots of professional organizations that have gotten less formal, so you want to think about who it is that you are sending your bio to. So if it's Dr. Robert Rogers or Dr. Bob Rogers, or Dr. Susan Applegate then you want to think about what am I going to say. Susan has or Dr. Applegate or Dr. whomever. So lets look at what the first paragraph would be and that is a paragraph about who you are and what you are doing. Dr. Applegate or Dr. Smith or Susan has been in the field of consulting for the last fifteen years. Her expertise includes and then you name that. And then you might say she has been a noted speaker throughout the last, or for the last five years speaking to certain organizations. So again it's third person. The second paragraph would be more about what you have done in the past. So you might speak to her background or his background or Bob's background or Mr. Smith's background includes fifteen years working in the semiconductor industry, most recently with. And you name the name of the company. Then you go into maybe specific areas of what you did in that specific field. If you have technology in the MIMS technology. You might want to be very specific about the technology that you have. Then the third paragraph would be maybe history. He or Bob has published or Bob is a coauthor of and the name of the book. The name of the publication and again maybe something about speaking engagements. You can go online and look up bios or biographical data sheets to get further information about that but that's just a few pointers about how to begin writing a bio for yourself."
