"Hello, my name is Penny Smith and I'm a North Carolina real estate broker. Today I'd like to talk to you about what do I need to ask before I sign that lease? Well you need to ask first of all, if I sign this lease, is this done? Can you go up on my rent? Can you go up on my deposit? When can I move in? When do I get the keys? When do I need to have the rights changed into my name? These are all great questions to ask but you need to ask them before you ever sign that lease. You need to understand a lease is a legal in binding contract that you are required to keep. You make promises, the landlord makes promises in it. It gives you stipulations of what you can and can't do, it also gives him stipulations of what he can and can't do. It is my recommendation that if you don't understand a lease, that you find someone that can explain it to you to your satisfaction before you ever sign it. And understand and remember this, everything is negotiable when it comes to a contract. There's something in that lease that you don't agree with, you can negotiate it. Thank you and I hope you have a good day."
