"Have you ever been working with fresh vegetables while working at the counter and receive some type of burn injury from working with fresh, hot peppers? Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni, and what we're going to talk about is how to treat a burn injury from working with hot peppers. When working with hot peppers some type of rubber glove should always be worn. Keep in mind latex gloves, the oil from the peppers can soak through latex, so you want to use some type of rubber glove. However, if you have forgotten to wear a set of gloves when working with hot peppers the oil from the peppers can get on the hands or skin and cause a burn injury. If this occurs, be careful not to touch any other parts of the body, including the eyes. Take the hands, if this is where the burn injury occurred, and wash them with dish soap being careful to take a nail brush and scrub under the fingernails with the dish soap. You can also apply some type of aloe vera gel to the burn injury, or even soak the hands in milk. The fat in the milk will help to breakdown the oils much quicker and faster than water will. Milk will not hurt the hands, so do not be afraid to soak them in milk as often as necessary. In this way the hot pepper burn can be soothed and the oil removed from the hands. I'm Captain Joe Bruni, stay safe, and we'll see you next time."
