"Hi, I'm Tristan McCauley from Lucky 7 Tattoo, and I'm here to tell you about belly button piercing aftercare. First and foremost, the best thing for your piercing is an antibacterial or an antimicrobial soap. That'll break up any of the bacteria and any of the build-up around the jewelry, and it'll allow for your body to secrete any kind of fluids that it's going to. What you want to do is push from the bottom, and lather... First, you want to lather up the soap in your hands, then you want to push from the bottom, clean around the top with a Q-tip if you have to, and you'll push from the bottom and clean it again and get any of the build-up off of it. It's going to look like a white crust like when you sleep in your eyes. Just get that off the jewelry and let it sit for about 30 seconds with the soap on it, then rinse it off with a warm soap...with some warm water, and you're good to go. Another thing to use is a saline solution. There's a couple different kinds. You can get H2Ocean or Blue Wave -- something like that. Another option is sea salt. You take a tablespoon of sea salt, dilute it in about a quarter of a cup of water, boil it, let it cool, and then just soak that on your piercing for 15 to 20 minutes. And that'll pull any kind of impurities out and help you clean it up. Another thing is to keep it really dry. The belly ring or the navel, in essence, is a big scar, so you want to make sure that after you wash it in the shower to dry it really well so there's no mildew, no build-up in it. And that's your best line of defense. And that is how you take care of a belly button piercing."
