"You've decided it's time to sell your car and you've never sold a car before, so you ask: "How do I legally sell my car?" Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to answer the question: How to legally sell a car. This is going to vary from state to state, so you may want to check the statutes in your state to determine the correct procedure for selling a car in your state. In some states, it's as simple as looking at the back of the title to your car, which indicates whose signatures are necessary and what blanks and what dates and whether there are any questions regarding the amount of the sale, and it can be completed. Sometimes it's notarized; sometimes it's simply witnessed or otherwise. And it's that simple of a process. In other states, you may consider simply trading in your car to have the facility from whom you are now obtaining another car handle the transfer of title from your car to someone else. You may want to consider paying off the car if there's an outstanding lien and having the bank transfer the title of the car. And there's also completing a bill of sale in some states. But in any event, no matter how you do it, keep a copy of the paperwork so that you can demonstrate at a later date that you have sold the car. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
