"My name is Christine Marquette, and I'm a registered dietitian, with the Austin Regional Clinic, and I'm going to talk to you about how to stay fit in the summer. The summertime offers a lot of different options. You can go swimming. You can go out biking. You can go out running. For a lot of people, for example, that live up north, summer is the ideal time to be outdoors, and get these type of activities in. Now, if you live in the southern states,it may not be as comfortable to be out in the heat, running or walking, so for people in the south, you really want to focus on your water activities, so not just swimming, but water skiing is another good way of getting some fitness in, some physical activity in the summertime, if you live in a hot climate. Some other things to do, if you really do like to run or to cycle, and you live in the south, make sure that you do it in the early hours of the day. Early morning time is the best time, if you live in a southern climate, if you live in a hot climate. That particular time of the day, will be much cooler, even if you try to wait until the evening. Again, if you're from the south, you know it stays hot for a long time, so your best option for cycling, or running, is going to be early in the morning. Otherwise, your summer fitness activities in the south, would be things like swimming, water skiing, any kind of water sport. That will help keep you cool, but still keep you fit. If you live in a northern climate, your options are unlimited in the summertime. You can do just about whatever you want outside. Anything that gets your body moving. Hiking is excellent, in some of the northern region, so that's another really good way to stay fit, so summer fitness offers you a wide variety of options, no matter what region that you live in."
