"My name is Gloria Campbell and I'm president and CEO of Advantage Training Systems located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Acing the job interview when it's over the phone may sound like an easy thing but it can be very tricky. One of the main reasons is because you can't judge the response of the other person. About seventy percent of our communication is done via body language and things that we pick up on, nuances, not just the spoken word. Over the telephone the only thing you have to rely on is the voice and intonation on the other end of the phone. What are some things you can do? First of all, practice. Practice interviewing over the phone. See how you come across. Make sure that your voice and your inflections are there and that you're really communicating what it is you want to say. The second thing is get some energy going. Jump up and down. Run around the room if you have to. But make sure when you're on that phone interview, that your energy transfers to that person that's interviewing you. The second thing that you can do is look in front of the mirror, because you want to make sure that you're smiling, it comes across. You want to make sure that what you're saying and your voice intonations are coming across in the way that you want them to. So you need to see yourself. Visualize what the person on the other end may be doing or what they may be looking like. Also, make sure that you ask questions so that you can keep that person engaged. Like, after you've answered a question, is that what you're looking for, is this the kind of experience that you think would be great for this job? So make sure that on that phone interview you've got energy, your voice is great, you're asking questions, you're staying engaged. Ace that interview and you'll get the job.
