Series Summary

Romance, some say, may not be an old concept in Western civilization. Our films are wont to add tumultuous love interests to ancient heroes like Beowulf, Achilles, Alexander, or Caesar, but many cultural theorists, textual experts, and sociologists have argued again and again that sexuality, which is the foundation for modern day romance, is a rather new creation of society, dating back merely a couple hundred years. According to many, Romantic love, or the affection two souls generate when they find kindred spirits in one another, began in the French stories of knights and chivalry. More traditional research, however, claims to find evidence of romance and intimate love in all cultures throughout history. Truly, love is a strange and enigmatic thing. In this free video series on relationships, author Dr. Paul Vehorn discusses several topics related to dating and interpersonal relationships. Vehorn begins by explaining how to date a variety of different people, such as: a celebrity, doctor, cougar, friend, musician, nerd, shy man, wealthy man, younger man and even a nice guy. He then discusses the intricacies of dating people within other social mediums, such as: bartenders, strippers, smokers, heavy drinkers, workaholics, gamblers and people of strict religious beliefs. "When you wish upon a star. Well, how do you date a celebrity? This is Doctor Paul author of Boomer Girls a boomer womans guide to men and dating and host of Ask Doctor Paul. Sometimes, we have occasion to date a celebrity, maybe we've been there and it's important to kind of follow some basic guidelines. Celebrity, typically, are living a little different lifestyle than most of us are used to. People who happened to be in screen actors guild, people who've happened to be in the shows, maybe they are musicians. In some fashion they're a celebrity and they have an ego and that's a good thing because they need that in order for them to succeed in what they're doing. That ego, obviously, needs to be fed but it doesn't have to be brutalized and so when you are with a celebrity, the best thing to remember is this, they're real people and they're celebrity status and their public image is different from their private image, in fact, once you get passed that veneer, once you get passed what appears to be there, as Shakespeare says "things are not as they seem", you may find a real person inside, don't prejudge. I've known celebrities, very well, and had the occasion to have the experience and I would suggest to you that understand all that you see and all the hype and all of the television responses and all the things that pundits say about then, whether they're political or whether they're musicians or whatever it may be, that's all hype, inside there's a real person. If you address that person and don't be swayed by that personality, remember, you're working with a person not a personality, it's all about the person. So, again, be real. This is Doctor Paul, may your fantasies of today be your realities of tomorrow."
