"Hi I'm Tim Gibson and I want to talk to you about how to control your garbage disposal odors. Now the first thing you want to do is to make sure that, it's a good idea if you're down inside or doing anything down inside your garbage disposal, you want to make sure that power is off. These are hard wired so you need to go back to your circuit breaker panel. But for practical purposes what we're doing, you know, we're not going to get down inside there as far as doing extensive. Some things you can do as far as cleaning it, to make sure that odors are not a problem. Now in the top of your garbage disposal, you have a rubber flap that's down in here and items and junk can accumulate on the underside of that flap. So you want to make sure you keep that clean. You simply can take a paper towel, wipe down underneath there. Some of those are actually removable where you can pull them out and clean that. Then the next thing we can do is you can take a common lemon such as this, cut it in half and just take a half of a lemon, put that down in your garbage disposal and whenever you run your garbage disposal you want to make sure you have the water running, so when you turn it on, just by grinding up that lemon it will actually get in there and actually clean out the blades and freshen everything up. The next thing we can do is you can take a cup of distilled white vinegar. This is a great cleaning solution to have around the house and what you want to do is you want to pour a cup of the vinegar down and then you want to follow it up with a pot of boiling water. So we'll just put that boiling water down in there. So the combination of the vinegar and the boiling water will help to clear all the debris and any grease that might be trapped in there. It's usually the trapped grease and everything that really causes a lot of your odor problems. So there you have it. I'm Tim Gibson and that's how to control garbage disposal odors."
