on 9/4/2009 Just found out the IMA is now covering Hot Stones Massage. Another place for licensed massage therapists to get good massage insurance is www.namtonline.com, a new non-profit, offering $1M/$3M coverage.

on 7/16/2009 She is right, you can get professional liability from The American Massage Therapy Association(AMTA) however the price is $235 per year plus a chapter fee and the coverage is $2,000,000 per occurrence and $6,000,000 aggregate(the maximum amount coverage per year.) The International Massage Association(IMA) cost is $199 (no chapter fee) and offers $2,000,000 per occurrence and $3,000,000 aggregate per year. Please compare the insurances because the coverage differs from the two organizations. For example, AMTA covers Hot Stone Massage but IMA does not.

"Hi there, if you're a massage therapist interested in purchasing professional liability insurance, I can tell you two places to get it, I'm Sundae, with Natural Sundae. Now purchasing professional liability insurance for massage therapist is very, very important, because no matter who you are, or how good you are, or who you know, some weirdo could walk through the door and claim you hurt them, it doesn't matter, you never know what's going to happen, and actually it's mandatory that you have insurance to perform massage therapy. So the two places that you can get this liability insurance are, The American Massage Therapy Association, you can purchase it right on-line, and for 250 dollars a year, you can get a million dollars worth of coverage, and then also the other place that you can get it is, The International Massage Therapy Association, and this is also another place you can purchase it right on-line, I think you actually get 2 million dollars worth of coverage with this one, although I'm not sure exactly what the cost is, it may be a little bit higher than the 250 dollars a year. That's really inconsequential though, you really need it no matter what and those are two places that you can get it, I would definitely recommend not practicing unless you get your professional liability insurance. It covers you as a therapist, and protects you from all sorts of trouble. Chances are you're a good therapist and you're never going to get sued, I've been a massage therapist for 10 years, and I've done hundreds and hundreds of massages and I've never had a problem, but you never know, so it's always good to protect yourself. So I hope you learned a little bit about it today, and if you need it, go out and get it. I'm Sundae with Natural Sundae, take care."
