"If you're a massage therapist curious if you need a massage establishment license and you're not sure, I can tell you if you need it or not. I'm Sundae with Natural Sundae. Now a massage establishment license is a license that is required for any kind of establishment that is providing massage therapy. And the owners of the business would purchase this--not the massage therapists themselves. Now the purpose for this license is so the Department of Health can regulate the profession and protect the public. And they do this by sending an inspector out to your location and making sure that it's up to code, as far as health and safety standards, and to also make sure that the therapists are licensed and certified to be providing massage therapy. And it's actually a very simple procedure, although it takes a long time. So right when you start to think about opening your business, apply right then because it's known to take as long as six months to be approved for your license. And what happens is you can go to the Department of Health and you can fill out an online application. And, of course, involved with that is a fee--there's fees with everything--and proof of insurance. And then an inspector will come out, on their time. You really don't know when they're going to come, but they can come at any time. And they're going to inspect your property and make sure that it's clean and has a restroom and there's actually a long list of things that they check for that you can go to the Department of Health website and find out what those points are that they're going to be looking for. And then, like I said, that sometimes it can take a couple weeks, if you're lucky. And, if you're not so lucky (which most people aren't), you usually have to wait from three to six months to get your license. And if you're depending on the money from this business, you're not going to want to wait to be able to open your business waiting for your establishment license. So do it in the very beginning. But, that's just a very brief overview of what a massage establishment license is and how to get it. I'm Sundae with Natural Sundae. Thanks."
