"Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today I'm going to talk to you about how to be a well liked teacher. This is something that all of us who teach probably want to figure out at one point or another. My first piece of advice for you is to be fair and by being fair, I mean give an eye for an eye. If you ask the students to be honest with you, you should be honest with the students. You ask them not to cheat on their exams, you should, if that's your policy, tell them what you require on the exam. Be prompt to class if you require them to be on time for class. This is just stuff that s very basic but will designate the students and will actually, you know, sort of, let them know if you really mean business. Be understanding. Allow students to slip up every once in a while because you know that you slip up every once in a while. You can give students extensions on papers. That's not something that's absolutely impossible for you to do, you can make exceptions for people who need them, for people who have extraneous circumstances. And you can take that time out of your schedule to make a sacrifice for the student. The teachers who are well liked are the ones who do sacrifice, you know, there own time or their work or something for a student. Great. And then, finally, be careful about being too nice, of course, or too well liked. Realize that you can, you know, sort of be a pushover if you go a little bit too far over the line. If you let everybody slip up, if you let everybody take that extension. Make sure that you keep yourself under wraps, and just sort of figure it out as you go along. And that's how to be a well liked teacher."
