"You have a child that wants to become emancipated so, naturally, the question is "how do I allow my child to become emancipated"? Hi, I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to address that question with you. First of all, emancipation means that the child has become a legal adult, it's not something that just happens without some type of court decree so if you're going to do this before you're particular states age, that the child has reached, to become emancipated as a matter of law, you're going to have to give your consent, you're going to have to be part of the process. What does emancipation mean? It basically means that the child has become a legal adult. Now, in some states, formal process for emancipation may still require you, the parent, to pay child support so you may want to check your particular states statutes to see if you still have to pay child support. What is certain, is if your child becomes emancipated with your consent, you loose control over that child, that could be a good thing, that could be a bad thing, it depends on your particular circumstances. Again, emancipation means the child is becoming a legal adult. I'm Robert Todd and thank you for watching."
