"Teaching etiquette to high school students can be quite a bit challenging, especially because they already have pretty much their manners all set. But let's give it a try and give you some tips of how to do it. Hi, I'm Hazely Lopez, from Hazely Academy of Refinement and Modeling, and I'm here to talk to you about teaching dining etiquette to high school students. The first things you want to start with are the basics. You need to ensure that your student knows that chewing with their mouth open, it's not really the appropriate thing to do. Also, you may want to let them know that cell phones on the table are not the proper way to go. We keep our cell phones in the pockets or in the purses. It's just not appropriate to be having the cell phone go off or ring during your dinner. You also want to make sure that you let them know that they're more than welcome to participate in conversations that they're having in the table. That's going to help them feel also that they're part of it -- they're not just standing there and just eating. You need to make sure, also, that you let them know that utensils are really important and they're there for a reason. We don't really eat with our hands. We're there to use our utensils, our napkins, and everything that we have on top of us. It's really important to let them know that they're there because they're part of the family, and also because you want them to be there. Having a high school student be pressured to be somewhere where they want can be awkward itself. I'm Hazely Lopez, from Hazely Academy of Refinement and Modeling, and these are just a few tips to have your high school student have a better time at the dinner table."
