"Hi my name is Rachel and I'm the owner of Austin style watch dot com street fashion site. And I'm also a freelance fashion reporter. And today we are going to talk about how to turn your old t-shirts into cute new tank tops. So if you are like me you just have oodles of t-shirts like tons, every club you join and races you do another t-shirt. So we are going to shake things up a little bit, turn it into a tank top. This is how we are going to do it. Now the awesome thing about this project, is that it can be modified for varying sewing skills so whether you are a master seamstress or you never stitched in your life we can kind of make this project work for you. So first thing we are going to do is really just take our t-shirt and turn it into a tube top. So we are going to do that with a pair of scissors and we are going to be cutting along this line right here. And that's basically just under the armpits of the shirt. So if you need a really straight line you can go ahead and draw yourself one there. But if you want to wing it just go ahead and cut right in and cut across. Then you are going to come to the bottom of the shirt and you are going to take about two inches off the bottom cut that right there. So what you are left with is the tube top, middle of the shirt. This top part we can kind of put that on the sidelines for the time being. And this bottom part we are actually going to go ahead and use. What you are going to do with that bottom part is take it fold the pieces and hem them. Now if you've never hemmed before it's really not that hard. You are basically just keeping the material from fraying so you are going to connect the two sides of the folded piece, sew it up and that's going to make your strap. If you can't sew, and you don't want to hem it, it will fray and your shirt is not going to last forever but we can go ahead and continue on and you can make your straps with unhemmed pieces. So now that you have your tube top you are going to take your straps anchor them on to the back and for this whether you want to sew or not you are going to have to do a little bit of stitching. But sew your straps on, bring it to the front, sew your straps on the front as well and if you really want to mix it up a little bit, you can take it and sew buttons on to the front of the shirt. Put button holes on your straps and have a cute little button tank top. And if you really absolutely hate sewing and you really just don't want to get involved in it, what you can do also is cut a hole in the front of the shirt and then just tie your straps on, cut a hole on the back, tie your straps on. That's a tank top as well. Just again, know that if you don't hem and you are just cutting straight holes your tank top is not going to last quite as long as if you hemmed it and protect it from fraying. So that's how to turn your t-shirt into a nice little tank top."
