"Hi, I'm Patti German and I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist here in New York City. In this clip we are going to talk about how to identify a controlling mate. Control is a very difficult part in a relationship. To identify whether your partner is controlling or not, is to understand what happens to you, what happens to you when they tell you do something or stop you from doing whatever it is you want to do. It's important to understand your feelings inside if you start to feel anger or belittled or being put down. Then it's important to understand that this might be part of controlling. A partner who is controlling another is really afraid to be in a relationship, that allows for two people to be themselves and to enjoy life. Controlling is where one person is trying to swallow up the other and not allow for freedom. Again this is Patti German in New York City."
