Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Patti German, and I'm a licensed Marriage and Family therapist, here in New York City. In this clip, we're going to talk about how to become independent. Independence is about learning to really rely on yourself, and believing in yourself, and the more you do, that you accomplish, that you feel good about yourself, the more independent you can become. It's deeper feelings of self pride, of self actualization, of learning how to be with yourself. Learning to be independent, doesn't necessarily mean that you don't need people. It means that you can be with people, and share yourself in a certain way, without a dependency. There's a big difference between being dependent on others, and being able to rely on yourself, so that you can feel ok in the world, without having to ask for permission to do things, or the need to be with others, in a controlling way, so independence is truly a state of mind. This is Patti German, in New York City."
