"Hi, my name is Stacie Royer, and I'm a career specialist from Austin, Texas. I'm going to talk to you today about becoming an accountant. To do this, you'll need to know a couple of things about yourself. You'll need to know that you have a love and a passion for math or the math type of industry. You'll also want to take as many courses as possible in math or finance to gain the knowledge and the basis that you'll need for this type of degree. You'll want to go to a four-year college or university to obtain your undergraduate degree in accounting. Most accountants, once they receive that degree, will pursue further education in becoming a certified public accountant. You don't have to go that route to become just a regular accountant, but to become a certified public accountant, you'll also need to take a couple of different measures. You'll want to check out your state requirements with regard to becoming a CPA, and then also take the CPA exam. Many corporations will employ accountants without having a CPA license, so just know that you don't have to become a CPA to become a successful accountant."
