"Wow! The test has a plus on it. Good news! Congratulations! But now how do you notify your boss you're going to have to take maternity leave? I'm Gloria Campbell. I'm President and CEO of Advantage Training Systems, located in St. Petersburg, Florida. And notifying your boss that you have to take maternity leave is one of those delicate areas that you might want to make sure you do it right. Always make sure that your boss knows before the rest of the staff does. There's nothing worse than your boss coming in and finding out from five other people that you're pregnant. The next you want to do is you want to let him know approximately when you're going to be out, and for how long. If you're not sure you're coming back, don't necessarily say that right up front. You do want to be honest, and you do want them to know that you may be considering taking an extended leave. Circumstances change, and you don't know. You may have to come back after your pregnancy. So make sure you do some things. You notify your boss first, or at least at the same time. I prefer a little bit ahead of the rest of the group. And then also, make sure that you give 'em a time frame when you'll be taking leave, and when you'll be back. If you have an idea of how you're going to handle your work load, or who could, you can do that as well. I'm Gloria Campbell with Advantage Training Systems in St. Petersburg, Florida, giving you the best way to handle notifying your boss that that kit says a big plus on it."
