How to Delegate Responsibilities

"One of the things you have to become good at if you're going to be successful in any business is delegation. My name is Gloria Campbell, and I'm with Advantage Training Systems located in St. Petersburg, Florida, telling you how to delegate responsibilities. The first thing we want to know, and we want to make sure that we're aware of, is that at some point, all of us are going to have to delegate. We can't do everything. And the mindset that nobody can do it as good, nobody is as qualified, or nobody is as good as you, is not going to really get us anywhere. So let's take a look at how do we delegate? The first thing we want to do is look at those tasks that we can delegate. Things that are fact finding. Things that may be time consuming. Things that may just be gathering information. The second thing we want to delegate are things that are not part of our core competencies, or our job. Things that, maybe, I just don't do well. Those are great things to delegate. The other thing to remember in delegation is delegate the objective, not the procedure. Don't manage...micromanage the process so that people feel that you're smothering them.
