"Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today I'm going to talk with you about how to teach kindergarten drawing. Kindergarteners are pretty much very limited in what you're going to be able to ask them to do, but they do have a great deal of imagination. So with your drawing classes for kindergarteners, let them take their imagination and run with it. Especially if you're going to be doing this with them every day, have days where you just let them do free drawing. Also, help them to experiment with different colors by teaching them the color wheel, and all the primary colors, and then, other colors they can make by mixing two colors together. This is always something that's very interesting to kids, is to learn how to do something just by taking the colors and putting them together. Next, let them experiment with all sorts of different ways to draw, you know, the messy paint, the markers, the colored pencils, the crayons. Actually have days where you say, you know, "Today we're going to draw it all with crayon." Or, "Today we're going to use all of the utensils", you know, drawing at least once, and then they can grasp that. And finally, when you sort of get into drawing with them, and they've drawn a few times, give them a drawing goal. You know, "Today we're going to make a card for your mom." Or, "Today we're going to make a card for you dad, and we want you to draw a picture of your family." Or "We want you to draw a picture of your pet", or something like that. So that they can have a drawing goal, and therefore they can use their cognitive skills to sort of figure that puzzle out, and translate something from their memory and their heart on to the paper."
