"Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today I'm going to talk with you about how to ask for an extension on a paper. So you're in a pickle, you have a paper due tomorrow and you need that extension. You want to ask your professor, but you're not exactly sure how. If your professor is a nice professor they will probably give you an extension, just if you ask them. If you're in such a pickle to where you need to ask them for an extension for tomorrow's paper, I would go ahead and either write them an email asking for the extension or try to find them at their office, before they leave school that day. So that you can actually sort of go out of your way to talk to them and get your extension. Otherwise, if you know that you've got a lot of work coming up, you probably want to nip your extension in the bud first and decide yes I need to ask my professor for an extension now even though the paper is due in a week. So that you can actually tell your professor what your problem is, you know, do you have four papers due that day? Do you have to go out of town right before that paper is due? Are you planning on, you know, just not being able to do the paper and not having the time set out for yourself to do it. But try to be honest with your professor and your professor will probably be pretty understanding with you. So basically, the best way to ask for an extension on a paper is to ask professor way ahead of time and face to face. So that's my advice for asking for an extension."
